#wellmomblogs ~ Mardi Gras education and craft

What better way to usher in Lent and the countdown to Easter blessings than enjoying the colors, fun and feasts of Fat Tuesday (en français
“Mardi Gras”)?!?!?

Now that I’m a mom, Mardi Gras may not be AS exciting as it once was when I was young. My friends and I would plan a little party with a giant feast to indulge in all the things we would sacrifice for the next 40 days! My usual Lenten give up is fried foods and pizza, which I will continue this year. I am also considering the Daniel Plan, which I blogged about last year at
https://ppbytt.wordpress.com/2014/03/29/daniel-plan-for-lent-2014-make-a-change-through-faith-food-fitness-focus-and-friends/.

However, Lent is not Just about sacrificing, but also helping others! So, the little lady and I will also plan special mission projects to help the less fortunate! We may volunteer at a food pantry, give away used items and just be more aware of the needs of our loved ones and neighbors.

A Brief History of the Holiday:

Mardi Gras is a day of carnival, when people dress up, have parades, dance, eat, drink, and stay up late. Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday” in French. The name “Fat Tuesday” comes from the ancient custom of parading a fattened ox through the streets of Paris, France, at the beginning of the celebration, which precedes Lent. Lent is the 40-day period preceding Easter; it is a period of Christian religious observance when people temporarily give up something they enjoy.

Here is the craft we did today to celebrate Mardi Gras with a mask and to also celebrate our giving hands! It was easy and fun!

So, prepare that feast
