I’ve always been a believer that “one woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure”. When one is done using something, it’s only right that it is passed onto another who can use it. “Waste not, want not” and a whole bunch of other cliches. Well, Anne Keenan, took that philosophy and the love of books to create Reading Recycled.

Do you have a favorite memory of reading to your children? Maybe it was at bedtime as they snuggled in? Can you imagine not having a book to read to them? Reading Recycled is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a simple goal: to put books into the homes of all children. This mission is the brainchild of the founder, Anne Keenan, a certified teacher with a Master’s degree in Education.

Anne was shocked after watching a documentary about young children with no books to read. As a teacher, she knew how devastating this was, and resolved to make a difference. To change this, Reading Recycled partners with community groups and organizations and various districts of the Philadelphia Police Department. To date, Reading Recycled has given out over 18,000 books. Efforts are being expanded to provide crates of books to local businesses and putting refurbished newspaper bins in areas where children frequent.
We are overjoyed to have Reading Recycled join us as a vendor for my May 3rd event, LADIES FOR LEMONS: Networking for a Cause & Vendor Fair to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) for Childhood Cancer – Gavin Strong Fund.
Ladies for Lemons decided that Reading Recycled is such a great cause and helps so many local children, that we asked them to host the May 3rd Book Nook to further their mission to ensure all kids have books!

How can you help? BYOB – Bring Your Own Book to donate to Reading Recycled at the LADIES FOR LEMONS on May 3rd! Families can Dine & Donate downstairs and then join us upstairs in the Book Nook! Enjoy a craft, temporary tattoo (while supplies last) and kids/adults can get their Mother’s Day Gifts at the Vendor Fair! If you donate a book, you can receive a coupon for Richman’s Ice Cream & Burger Co. in Glenside, PA.
