#WellMomBlogs ~ Importance of Nature Play and “1000 Hours Outside” Challenge….

As we all know, there is mounting research proving, for so many reasons, why outdoor play is imperative and beneficial for young people (and adults too!)  If you need some statistics, checkout Surviving Early Childhood Without Screens and Without Screaming.

This is an article by an outstanding outdoor loving family, authors of 1000HoursOutside. With compelling research and findings, “When we add nature immersion into childhood we start to run out of time for screens! Nature time also significantly addresses the issue of stress during childhood, for children and adults alike.” So we challenge you to somehow clock 1000 hours outside this year! You got this mama!

We at PPbyTT.blog find it part of our foundation, and a personal mission of mine, to help bring readers helpful information to enhance their lives through plants and green living.  In addition, growing a community of families and business owners to work together through engaging events!  To drive this point, PPbyTT.blog partnered with #YLlifestyleTeam and Alyssa Maley, to create Enlightening Plant-Powered Event Series for Children!

Alyssa Maley, is a Philadelphia-area Nature Education Expert, who I am blessed to call friend and teammate! Alyssa leads our nature education children’s events, which often incorporate hands-on plant-filled education.

Alyssa Maley has been teaching in early childhood classrooms for ten years in various educational settings. For seven years, she taught in South Philadelphia at Discovery Place Preschool. Then, she discovered Nature Preschool where she taught for another three years connecting young children to nature. For the past fifteen years, she has also been working at The Franklin Institute hosting science workshops for children of various ages. During these workshops Alyssa used the natural curiosity of children to make personal connections to science concepts.

In addition to her teaching experience, Alyssa received her Bachelors of Science Degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Temple University. Alyssa also has a Master’s Degree in Special Education from Arcadia University along with her Level 2 PA teaching certification.  She is now teaching at Kencrest Early Learning Center.  Alyssa is a Nature Educator at Tinkergarten, a network of leaders that bring families together in a natural place in their community for classes where kids learn through play. Each class becomes a tight-knit group of children and adults who learn together through well-designed, outdoor play-based activities.  Alyssa enjoys bringing her 2-year-old daughter Ginny to these playdates and spending family time with her Franklin Institute educator husband Mickey and three year old daughter Ginny.

PLANT-FILLED PLAY DATES

At our recent events, we hosted plant-filled play dates at local nature parks. Each event included a planting activity where kids planted seeds in biodegradable paper towel rolls that they took to plant at home. This activity was paired with plant powered essential oils Make-N-Take by the parents. Then the kids just played outside together with their moms getting to know each other! Something about throwing in some sunshine and fresh air always makes it more fun!

“REAL LIFE” EVENTS

Often, we will bring you information through online events; however, being true to the points of the article, sometimes we need to put the screens down and meet people in real life!!!  So, we have been congregating as friends while cultivating partnerships through in-person events!  (Picture Benjamin Franklin’s JUNTO, always with plants, sometimes with kids – google it:  they built our nation in taverns and at parties!)

Please Stay Tuned to Our Event Page to Get Involved Virtually and Realistically at PPbyTT.blog/events.  (!!!Currently in planning phase for the season, please check back soon!)
