Like anyone, I love me an all American BBQ; However, for Memorial Day it’s really important to go back in history, and look to our founding fathers (and mothers), to celebrate the immensely brave men (and women), who gave it all for the birth of our nation. And of course, it is an important time to pay respects to our soldiers who have fallen and those who continue to give it all, to keep our freedom intact today. As a huge history nerd, and a Revolutionary Era enthusiast, I have two great recommendations for families with children, and for the adults, which feature the birth of our nation.
So if you can’t get outside, need some travel flicks, or are stuck inside with a rainy memorial day weekend, enjoy these binge-worthy Revolutionary War series to celebrate your Memorial Day meaningfully!

* FOR FAMILIES:
Liberty’s Kids HD 2017: American Revolution – HD Full Series
Follow cartoon revolutionary newspaper reporters who operated through Ben Franklin’s mail delivery / newspaper empire (yeh Ben crushed that too!) Learn along with your kids as you are part of the action of monumental national birthing events, such as the Boston Tea Party, Continental Congress and Revolutionary Era happenings that make these historical events real (and memorable American History lessons for our learning young people!).
* FOR ADULTS:
“TURN: Washington’s Spies” on Netflix
This thrilling series stars Jamie Bell (remember that cute boy ballerina Billy Elliot? That was Bell’s breakthrough role!). Now he is dancing across the screen, double-crossing the British as a network of George Washington’s spies which plays throughout the tri-state area! So amazing to hear familiar area towns and see what really played out during the creation of the United States.
And the secret operative men and women who were only recently discovered as being the true lifeblood of Washington’s troops–the real fighting wasn’t done on the battlefield! Enjoy characters like Ben Franklin, Benedict Arnold and Lafayette, as you deep roots that birthed our country.
