Quarantine Naturally: Going Outdoors While Social Distancing

Governors across the nation, and the American President has issued a “stay home” mandate, but that still means go outside! Just practice smart “social distancing”, as prescribed by the Center of Disease Control (CDC) for Covid-19.

Actually, connecting with plants and nature is important for our mental and physical health. This is especially true when we are anxious and when one is feeling cooped up (🐥 who me? 🐣) . Since we love being outside, we compiled almost 100 Ideas for Going Outdoors While Social Distancing. So get out there — #GoOutsideAndPlay.

OUTSIDE WITH FRIENDS AFAR

So how do we do meet in the middle to go outdoors and still be socially responsible? Well, I guess boredom is the mother of invention because we have been coming up with some inventive rule-following activities to do outside:

– Hide and seek
– Pictionary from afar
– Plant a Garden (not a bad time to grow your own food!
– Scavenger Hunt – just google “printable scavenger hunt at a park/backyard/neighborhood/city”
– Messages – Writing and Reading Practice. Kids just write messages and share at a 6ft+ distance. The other has to guess the message.
– The Guess What This Is Game: I don’t know what to call this one but the kids across the street and mine started tying toys to string, throwing it out the window. The kids across the street would then guess what it was. It was original, inventive and off the cuff. We laughed a lot too!

Our kids will be fine! Parents on the other hand hate feeling Like an overnight germaphobe telling people to keep away “eeewww cooties”!!!! Here are some more ideas so we don’t need to keep playing “keep away” when outside!
