Food Safety and Bringing Items into Your Home During the Corona-virus Outbreak

My mind is blown and my vegetables are taking a bath!

Well, I thought I was being hyper-vigilant with cleaning my groceries and mail, but apparently I need to step up my game.  Im sorry to be negative when ya’ll need good news but this is pertinent info, which could save a life or at least help you stay healthier these days. Since this info is slowly getting out there, I wanted to be sure to share: WASH MORE THAN YOUR HANDS – IT COULD SAVE A LIFE.

While there is no published evidence, and we are not aware of unpublished evidence that people have developed COVID-19 illness from touching food or food packaging (As of 4/1/2020 – data is dynamic). However, the virus causing COVID-19 can survive on surfaces and objects for a limited amount of time.

So basically, you should be ok changing outside packaging or washing that if you cannot find ziplock these days 😢. You should either peel or seriously submerge produce in a vinegar solution or something like Thieves Fruit & Veggie Spray, Or the Thieves Soak, which we have been drowning all produce in! Here’s why not to use hand soap to clean produce.

However, in my opinion, with the ever-evolving data, if you really don’t want to get this virus on your veggies…. either eat cooked vegetables, peel the skins and avoid eating raw veggies that you cannot peel skins (like peppers and tomatoes, which means my kids will be eating a lot of peeled cucumbers…until we get more data!) if you really must have those strawberries, ya better scrub them!
