Isolated Independence Day – History As Purposeful Entertainment

This will be one of the most unique and slightly sad Independence Day’s. With parades, fireworks and BBQs canceled, many Americans suffering from sickness and/or fear will be in a strange summer isolation like never before. So, while you fire up the grill outback, fill up your puddling pool or just veg out on the couch, here is some history as purposeful entertainment!

‘Hamilton’ for the Day

For those of you with Disney+, you have a 1-day window to see Lin-Manuel Miranda’s  “Hamilton”. It was originally supposed to come to movie theaters, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused Disney to change its plans. The big day is finally here for “Hamilton” fans — #Hamilfans — along with anyone who has longed to see the Broadway hit but hasn’t been able to catch the show.

The musical follows the life of US founding father Alexander Hamilton, as he goes from misunderstood Caribbean immigrant to the first ever Secretary of the Treasury of the United States. It celebrated its inaugural year with a record-breaking 16 Tony Award nominations in 13 categories, winning 11 — including the prestigious Best Musical award.
