Pennsylvanians Urged to Download App for COVID-19 Contract Tracing, and Accurate Statistics by County!

Yes, we know we were supposed to be doing a series about Food as Medicine, and we promise that there are several plant-filled posts in the works. However, current events and community needs, change our plans sometimes. If there is anything consistent in 2020, it’s the continued huge changes, like waves knocking us on the shore. This blog is here to throw out a lifeline, look at the positive and offer resources to our readers!

With that said, we hate to be the bearer of bad news, but we need to be vigilant as the virus has another wave rushing upon us. As we live in Pennsylvania, we will share our state’s Covid-19 protocols. 6ABC NEWS: PA Tightens Restrictions on Travel, Mask Wearing…

We know that it is difficult to trust the news, the CDC or other sites — not mention it is not great for your mental health. So if you don’t want to always be tuned into the news, we recommend checking your county website for their Covid stats or GET THE PA COVID APP (more info below). Also be sure to also pay attention to the hospitalization numbers.

It’s such a letdown to be making these decisions about our family’s health and how we are going to move forward, shortly after loosening up our germaphobe regime. It’s difficult to walk the line between not scaring your children and deciding if they cannot play with their friends or may have to stay home from school Again! So, it’s imperative that we have the accurate statistics of how the virus is affecting our local community! Here are some helpful resources!

What is Contract Tracing and Why is it Important?

Contact tracing is a way for the state health department to contact people who have come into close contact with someone who has tested positive for the virus. Contact tracing attempts to find all contacts of a confirmed case, in order to test or monitor them for infection. The goal is to stop the spread of a disease by finding and isolating cases. That way, those people know to quarantine to help prevent it from spreading any further.

Pennsylvania Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said of those people who tested positive for covid-19 and were contacted, only 16% were willing to say whether they visited a business or large gathering. “More and more people are not providing this information as part of a case investigation. That’s a real challenge for us,” said Levine.

So, we urge to our fellow Pennsylvanians to answer the call of duty — help the fight and inform others who could be infected. Simply report your activities if you should contract the virus. The system is setup to then inform people who you have been in contact with, who may be at risk for being a carrier or become sick (continuing to infect and spread the disease!)
